Bridging Pedagogy and Strategic Governance

With over 25 years of experience in the educational sector—spanning from Flemish secondary education to my current role at the European School Brussels IV (Laeken)—my career has been defined by a commitment to both academic excellence and institutional growth. I believe that modern school leadership requires a unique harmony between deep pedagogical understanding and robust strategic management.

As a dedicated educator and leader within the European School system, my focus is on the holistic development of students through the 8 Key Competences. My approach moves beyond traditional instruction, aiming to create an environment where critical thinking and digital transformation are met with resilience and individual growth.

Strategic Leadership & "High-Reliability" Management

My professional background is distinguished by a rare transition from high-stakes scientific management to educational leadership. During my tenure as Manager of Education and Training at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN), I honed a "High-Reliability Management" mindset. This experience in a zero-error environment has deeply influenced my approach to school administration:

  • Stakeholder Diplomacy: Expertise in acting as a central liaison between diverse academic institutions and international bodies (such as the OECD).

  • Strategic Representation: As the elected Teachers’ Representative, I act as a bridge-builder, harmonizing complex interests between staff, senior management, and international stakeholders to foster a constructive institutional dialogue.

  • Operational Excellence: Proven track record in resource allocation, safety protocols, and large-scale logistical coordination within the European School framework.

Driving Educational Innovation

Innovation in education is not just about technology; it is about methodology and mindset. I have spearheaded several initiatives aimed at future-proofing the secondary cycle:

  • Learning How to Learn: I founded and scaled this initiative to embed vertical learning lines throughout the curriculum, empowering students with the autonomy needed for lifelong success.

  • Pedagogical Integration: Actively integrating GreenComp and DigComp frameworks into practical learning, ensuring students are prepared for both the sustainability challenges and the digital demands of the future.

  • Mentorship & Faculty Growth: As a mentor for new staff and Head of Section, I advocate for a supportive leadership style that empowers faculty members to excel within a shared strategic vision.

A Foundation of Discipline and Teamwork

My leadership philosophy is further shaped by a lifetime of dedication to science and sport. My background as a national team swimmer and a certified Trainer A coach has instilled in me the values of fair play, perseverance, and the importance of motivating a team toward a shared goal.

Whether in the lab, the pool, or the boardroom, I strive to create environments where respect, collaboration, and growth are central. I am driven by the belief that with structured support and a collaborative mindset, educational institutions can reach new heights of excellence.

"Leadership is the bridge between pedagogical vision and operational success."
